- School Buses are one of the safest modes of transportation in the United States. Part of that reason is the stringent certification and ongoing requirements for school bus drivers.
- To become a school bus driver for South Western School District you must:
- Successfully complete the application and interview process.
- Attend twenty (20) hours of classroom session.
- Successfully complete a DOT physical.
- Pass drug and alcohol screening test.
- Pass driving and PA criminal record check.
- Pass PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
- Obtain Commercial Driver License (CDL) class B permit, "P" and "S" endorsement, lifting "Air Brake Restriction."
- Pass written test administered by Pennsylvania State Examiner.
- Complete a minimum of twenty (20) hour Behind The Wheel training instructed by SWSD state certified instructors.
- Pass PA DOT Behind The Wheel test, administered by PA State Examiners.
- Receive CDL with P and S endorsements
- Receive approval from SWSD School Board.
- You now have the privilege to transport students safely to and from school.
